The 21stcentury has been called the Information Age. With the rapid proliferation of the Internet and computer technology in the last few years, an information explosion has pervaded our lives. Information Technology (IT) has dramatically transformed the workplace, communications and transactional activities. Information Technology in the education Sector plays a very important role maintaining records of every school, teacher and Student where the volume of data is enormous. The more efficient is when the Information Technology is being applied upto schools level or villages\cluster level for daily transactional basis.Educational Technology is the effective use of technological tool in learning process. The use of Educational Technology for education has become one of the important factors which help in student learning enhancement and move toward the interest in learning rather than lecture method such facility which include smart school, ICTs etc. pave way toward improving the education through Information Technology.ICT in any system and situation includes ICT infrastructure, creation, storage and retrieval of digital resources, use of inter-operable software, technical support, networking using telecommunication and satellite-based communication to enhance learning. The schools and TEIs require a robust, reliable ICT infrastructure in order to effectively integrate ICT into all aspects of school life and that of TEIs including teaching, learning and evaluation.

The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in schools have been subsumed in the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA). Now ICT in Schools is a component of the RMSA. The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Schools was launched in December, 2004 and revised in 2010 to provide opportunities to secondary stage students to mainly build their capacity on ICT skills and make them learn through computer aided learning process. The Scheme is a major catalyst to bridge the digital divide amongst students of various socio economic and other geographical barriers. However, in the Integrated Scheme that is Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, SSA ,the scheme currently covers Government Upper Primary, Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools.

Under this Scheme schools are provided with Computer Hardware, Software and Multimedia Contents are also provided under the Scheme. Meghalaya started implementing the ICT @ Schools under in the erstwhile RMSA from the year 2008-09. The State had chosen for outright purchase of Hardware and Software. The scheme also provided training for the instructor in two phases every year. The instructors were appointed for one (1) year only.

ICT implementation has essentially four components:

1. The first one is the partnership with State Governments and Union Territories Administrations for providing ICT enabled education to Government and Government aided schools and TEIs (SCERTs/ SIEs, DIETs and BITEs).

2. The second component is teacher related interventions, such as, provision for engagement of an ICT teacher in schools, continuous capacity enhancement of all teachers in the use of ICT, and recognition of teachers and teacher educators for innovative use of ICT in education and learning, as a means of motivation.

3. Third one relates to the development of digital contents, curation and deployment of existing digital contents mainly through Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), National Institute of Education (NIE), NCERT, State Institutes of Educational Technology (SIETs), SCERTs/SIEs and RIEs, and through outsourcing from different relevant agencies.

4. Fourth component is related to creation of Management Information System (MIS) of the schools and TEIs ecosystem to enable cumulative assessments, evaluation, monitoring, regular feedbacks and enhanced learning at various levels.
