Vocational Education
Schools provide an environment for systematic teaching-learning to the learners for acquiring knowledge, skills and attitude required to meet the varied aspirational needs and educational goals. Vocationalisation of education refers to the inclusion of those practical subjects or courses, which shall generate among the students some basic knowledge, skills and disposition that prepare them to think of becoming skilled workers or entrepreneurs. It serves as an instrument to bring about the connectivity between general education and vocational education. It may be seen as an instrument for providing diversification of educational opportunities, enhancing individual’s employability and enabling individual to pursue higher education.

Vocational Education also prepares and equipped stuent with skills and abilities to work in various jobs or trades. It has gained much accolade and importance in the education spectrum with many educational institutes integrating it in their curriculum or courses. Further, the NEP 2020 has stressed on the integration of Voc. Ed with mainstream education with the youths in India are still lacking the occupational skills along with employability skills, even at the age group 19-24 years when compared to other countries.The NEP aims that by 2025 at least 50 % of the students must have had some exposure to vocational education through schools. It has outlined the importance of integration of Voc. Ed from the early ages in schools which will aid in the smooth integration to higher secondary and the Vertical Mobility of students with Voc. Ed has also been outlined through linkages with local ITIs, Polytechnics, Local Industries through internship etc., and emphasis on experimentation on Voc. Ed will be carried out through various models, apprenticeship, setting of Incubation Centres in partnership with Industries etc.

Meghalaya since its implementation of vocational education in 2017 have come a far way with the number of students enrolling for vocational subject steadily increasing every academic and the total enrollment exceeding 3000 Nos. The Principals, students, students etc; are slowing realizing the importance of vocational education though skeptical in the beginning of the implementation are now encouraging students to take up vocational courses.

2AGRICULTURE Meghalaya has 81% of the population under agrarian as it is rural based with Agriculture playing a predominant role in employment and income generation and a major contributor to the state's economy. The students with agrarian background could discover various job roles in this trade and in later years be one of the contributing agents in the increment of the State economy.
3 BEAUTY & WELLNESS Meghalaya is famous as a tourist destination and there are many job roles to support this tourism industry. Beauty & Wellness will serve the local population with more qualified and well equipped Beauty Therapist as well as explore the various careers in the world of beauty & wellness and help develop an entrepreneurship spirit among the students.
4 IT & ITeS The IT&ITeS has been growing in integration of small and medium enterprises indicatingprogress in local businesses. Meghalaya has an untapped industry in IT& ITeS with many job roles as IT support staff, Software development, Back office processing, Call center operations, Business process outsourcing in Financial Services, Manufacturing, HealthCare Outsourcing, Retail, FMCG IT Telecomm (Application Software and Hardware) Services and apparels as well as ITeS IT Telecomm Services comprise of all technology methods to gain control over Voice, Wireless and Network equipments. The youth in Meghalaya has ample job opportunities in this industry.
5 ELECTORNICS & HARDWARE Electronics sector in India presents unique opportunities and challenges. It has been growing rapidly over the last couple of years and is expected to reach US$ 400 billion by 2020. Among several challenges, shortage of skilled manpower has been identified as one of the most critical constraints that the sector is confronting with
6 HEALTHCARE Health care is various services provided by health professionals for maintenance or improvement of health through prevention, diagnosis, treatment, recovery, or cure of disease. Access to healthcare depends on various factors from economic status to access to lack of professionals and in order to bridge the gap more health professionals need to be trained. The Healthcare Industry is growing rapidly with more and more people seeking access to health services and Meghalaya is still has a long way to go have accessible healthcare to every region in the State, therefore the need to train more health professional is imperative.
