Vocational Education also prepares and equipped stuent with skills and abilities to work in various jobs or trades. It has gained much accolade and importance in the education spectrum with many educational institutes integrating it in their curriculum or courses. Further, the NEP 2020 has stressed on the integration of Voc. Ed with mainstream education with the youths in India are still lacking the occupational skills along with employability skills, even at the age group 19-24 years when compared to other countries.The NEP aims that by 2025 at least 50 % of the students must have had some exposure to vocational education through schools. It has outlined the importance of integration of Voc. Ed from the early ages in schools which will aid in the smooth integration to higher secondary and the Vertical Mobility of students with Voc. Ed has also been outlined through linkages with local ITIs, Polytechnics, Local Industries through internship etc., and emphasis on experimentation on Voc. Ed will be carried out through various models, apprenticeship, setting of Incubation Centres in partnership with Industries etc.
Meghalaya since its implementation of vocational education in 2017 have come a far way with the number of students enrolling for vocational subject steadily increasing every academic and the total enrollment exceeding 3000 Nos. The Principals, students, students etc; are slowing realizing the importance of vocational education though skeptical in the beginning of the implementation are now encouraging students to take up vocational courses.
